New Fisk

"How do you stop Osama bin Laden?" (ABC interview)

This is a great interview, even in the cheeseparing Howard years the ABC can outshine most of what passes for current affairs in NZ.
Fisk (right wingers- do not say his name aloud) is in good form here, master of the subject. The method he proposes, for the U.S. to get out of Iraq, strikes me as relying too much on good faith and will leave the folks there in the lurch but he is trying to make the best of a bad situation and his view that things will not improve until the U.S. does leave is correct.
It is very refreshing to hear someone talking about Iraq in specifics not the usual mush about freedom and democracy.
I find it extremely difficult to see how this talk could be labelled as "anti-American" or "pro-terror" but I suppose that is the price of rationality.

Hmm, I do think there are two major things at work here though. There are Muslims who are reactive against the injustices and "decandence" of the West but there is also the proactive thread. And I guess they intertwine.

We can change the West and shut down the reactive response, but Fisk doesn't offer how we can work with the proactive world Caliphate ideology.
