Cold and damp

I went to the local Amnesty International ceasefire vigil tonight. Nine people, a couple of banners, and rather too much wind and rain, which kept blowing out the candles (I'm sure there's a metaphor in that somewhere). I don't for a minute think it will change anything, but it was good to go along and, in a small way, express my support for peace.

Hopefully, it won't be "same place, same time, next week"...

It was much the same in Wellington, except we had about 40 people.

(we did however get a lot of media in attendance)

I'm not generally a fan of purely symbolic action, although such actions can be used to shame and embarass corporations and governments.

On this occasion however, it did feel like the right thing to do.

Well, you can always do something practical as well - live donating to the Red Cross...

When was a corporation or a government ever shamed into anything?
