It's a crime

Nats may call in police over secret tapes

"Telling people what our policies are in an election year is a crime," said National Party leader John Key, "or at least it ought to be."

"National stands for law and order," he added, "and that means committing to ensuring that such heinous criminals will be brought to justice. And a tax cut."

In response to queries about the public's right to know, he said "we'll tell the punters when we're good and ready - preferably after we've won power." When Three News' Duncan Garner pointed out that this would mean that the public wouldn't be able to do anything about it and asked whether this too was National party policy, Key turned to his DPS bodyguard and said "Arrest that man!"
