The big bang

In about twenty hours time, at 08:30 BST (20:30 NZST), scientists at CERN will activate the Large Hadron Collider. According to some people, it will destroy the world, possibly by awakening Yog-Sothoth (really, it must be like poking him with a very sharp stick). Alternatively, it could fling us into a mirror universe where everyone has a beard and is their opposite, which could be interesting. Most likely, though, it will do absolutely nothing, except make a lot of scientists very excited and keep them in papers for decades to come (oh, and allow them to formulate a Grand Unified Theory, which is pretty cool). I guess we'll know tonight. So, if DPF starts showing a sense of intellectual integrity, while I grow facial hair and start posting like WhaleOil, you'll know that something has gone horribly wrong...
