Labour will repeal disconnection

A few months back, in the wake of the passage of the "SkyNet" law, I was rather harsh about Labour and Clare Curran for refusing to give a straight answer when asked whether they would repeal it. In the face of such public anger, the stock "we'll consider it", with no timeframe and no indication of actual personal commitment, was utterly inadequate, and looked like a stock political put-off (something a former PR flack should have known).

The good news is that while that response was inadequate and did not endear the Labour Party to the torch-waving mob of angry internet people, Curran has followed through, got her party to consider it, and got them to change their policy. At NetHui today, she announced that Labour will be repealing disconnection the next time they are in government.

So, we now have a clear policy choice in November, between a party which supports oppressive American copyright law, and one which doesn't, between one which sees the internet as a threat to the established order, and one which sees it as a vital tool of citizenship. If you're part of the net.generation, I think the choice is pretty clear.
