More cronyism

Cronyism seems to be a daily habit for the current government. Yesterday they appointed one of their POR flacks to run our public TV broadcaster. Today, they've appointed one of their former MPs, Belinda Vernon, to the board of the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences. Did they think we wouldn't notice? Or that we've got so used to political parties stacking government boards with their own as a retirement scheme that we wouldn't care.

Our government should not be treated as the "spoils of office" like this. National rightly railed against this sort of cronyism when they were in opposition; in government they have simply shown themselves to be hypocrites.

Update: Missed one - they've also appointed former National MP Gavan Herlihy to the board of Landcare Research.
