The police will investigate the GCSB's illegal spying on Kim Dotcom:
Police have announced an investigation into alleged illegal spying carried out by the Government Communications Security Bureau on the internet tycoon Kim Dotcom.

Police Commissioner Peter Marshall today said a senior police investigator would be appointed to assess the complaint.
Kristy McDonald QC had been appointed to assess and review any recommendations arising from the investigation.
She would then make her own recommendations to the Commissioner's office, Mr Marshall said.
The police are clearly aware here that the public don't have much faith in them to uphold the law in this case, hence the independent oversight and separate recommendations. But in order for that to work, both sets of recommendations will have to be made public (insofar as that is compatible with security) at the end of it all. Anything less than full transparency will backfire, and come across as another coat of (very expensive) whitewash.
